Textback — Privacy Policy

Textback has no account, no sign-up, and no advertising. We do not track or profile you, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers. Your history, saved people and settings live on your device.

What data the app collects, and how

Textback collects only what you type or choose in the app:

• Message text you paste or type — entered by you on the Home screen, so the app can suggest replies.
• A screenshot you explicitly pick from your photo library — only the image you select, only when you tap “Add a screenshot”. The app never scans or accesses your photo library on its own.
• Your in-app choices — the tone you pick, the app’s language, the people/relationships and notes you save, and your reply history.
• Subscription status — an anonymous identifier used to keep your subscription working across reinstalls.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, advertising identifiers, or browsing activity.

What stays on your device

Your reply history, the people and notes you save, your settings and your consent choice are stored only on your device. We cannot see them, and deleting the app removes them.

How replies are generated, and the third-party AI service

Textback can generate replies in two ways:

• On your device (default until you agree otherwise). A built-in engine writes the replies locally. Nothing is sent anywhere.
• With a third-party AI service, only if you turn it on. The first time an AI reply would be generated, the app shows a screen explaining exactly what is sent and to whom, and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent unless you tap “Allow and continue”.

If you allow it, the following is sent: the message text you pasted or typed, the screenshot you explicitly selected (only when you use that feature), the tone you chose and the app’s language. It is sent over an encrypted connection to our own server (Google Cloud Functions, which holds our API key), which forwards it to OpenAI, L.L.C. (United States) for the sole purpose of writing your replies and reading the message out of your screenshot.

Nothing else is sent: not your name, email, contacts, saved people or notes, reply history, location, or any device identifier. We do not store your messages or screenshots on our server — they are held only in memory for the seconds it takes to answer the request, and then discarded. Under OpenAI’s API terms, data submitted through the API is not used to train their models, and OpenAI provides protections for this data equivalent to those described in this policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings → AI replies. With it off, the app writes replies entirely on your device and sends nothing to any AI service.

Screenshots

A screenshot is used only to read the message you are replying to. It is only ever sent if you have turned on AI replies, and only the single image you pick. We never upload, browse or store your photo library.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple or Google account.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Because we hold no account and no server-side copy of your content, deleting the app deletes your data. To ask a question about your data, email hello@mrbooz.com.
